There are 49 islets surrounding Mauritius out of which, 7 has been proclaimed as Nature Reserves and 8 as National Parks. Many of these islets have great potential for conservation, education and leisure if managed properly. Regular expeditions are carried out to the islets of conservation importance to carry out habitat restoration, to monitor the plants and animals and to control alien and invasive species.
